Tom Bell, New Chair of NNA Technology & Innovation Sub Group

Posted: 06 August 2026

The NNA are delighted to announce their new Chair of the Technology & Innovation Sub Group – Tom Bell.

Tom has worked as the Strategy Manager at UKNNL for the last six years, where he helps to define and implement the lab’s long-term strategy. He wrote the organisation’s previous Strategic Plan, which introduced its focus areas of clean energy, environmental restoration, health and nuclear medicine, and security and non-proliferation, and he is currently working on its replacement which will be published later this year. Prior to UKNNL, Tom worked at the technology and innovation consultancy firm PA Consulting, and before that he was an officer in the British Army, in a variety of leadership roles.

Tom is passionate about unlocking the potential of the nuclear sector to benefit society, by decarbonising and securing our energy supplies, and through other applications such as medical radioisotopes.

He is also currently on a mission to raise funds for St Barnabas Hospice in Lincoln, by wearing every one of his disturbingly large collection of bad ties, so if you see someone walking around Birchwood in a 70s kipper, it’s probably him!
