Jobs in low-carbon technology await eco-minded 18-24-year olds
The UK’s mood on Net Zero has been tested by a recent YouGov poll of the UK population which revealed that 79% of 18-24-year olds believe it is important for the country to be a Net-Zero emissions nation.
The sentiment from Generation Z on the topic of the energy transition is higher than that expressed by Baby Boomers (74%) and Millennials (74%), and in good time for them to capitalise on thousands of jobs in the energy sector.
This is welcome news to Assystem, the global nuclear engineering company that commissioned the poll to find out how young people entering the jobs market feel about the energy transition.

“Put frankly, if you’re interested in science, technology, engineering and maths, and you care about Net Zero, then nuclear is the career for you.”
Providing 10% of global electricity supply, nuclear power is the second-largest source of low-carbon electricity today and has a key role to play in a low carbon energy mix. In the UK nuclear provides around 20% of the nation’s electricity, acting as a secure and stable baseload source of energy to the grid.
For the first time in more than 20 years nuclear power is being built again in the UK at Hinkley Point C. Other projects, including Sizewell C and the UK SMR programme led by Rolls-Royce, are ready to go and if progressed, will create thousands of jobs across the UK supply chain.
