National Skills Academy for Nuclear gain Cyber Essentials Plus accreditation.

The government-backed Cyber Essentials scheme is designed to improve the resilience of UK businesses to the most common cyber security threats. Cyber Essentials Plus is a more advanced level of assurance, and includes an additional internal scan and on-site assessment. The scheme requires companies to implement five key controls:

  • Secure configuration
  • Boundary firewalls and internet gateways
  • Access control and administrative privilege management
  • Patch management
  • Malware protection

To achieve this standard NSAN worked with Urban IT Solutions who provided support through their products and services to evaluate NSAN’s internal and external systems, and aided in strengthening system protection from cyber-attacks.

NSAN worked with Urban to complete the self-assessment process which was verified by an external consultant and certified by certification body Xyone Cyber Security.

Nick Cusick, Financial Director for NSAN took the lead in gaining the accreditation on behalf of NSAN:

“It is reassuring to know that at our facilities are secure, keeping our data safe is one of our main priorities.  Cyber Essentials is becoming an essential requirement as part of many of our sector’s tender requests.  It is great that we have completed this at our earliest opportunity and I would urge companies looking to contract with nuclear companies to look at completing the standard.”
